Our Staff
The Yeshiva’s faculty is comprised of a reservoir treasury of decades of experience in outreach and counselling, graduates of some of the major Torah institutions, and Rabbis whose dedication to the Jewish people acts as an inspiration to their students. The Rabbis serve both as educators par excellence as well as role models of the highest calibre, guiding and moulding their students in every aspect of life, both in the physical and spiritual realms. They work as a highly motivated team to maximize the potential of each of their charges, enabling them to grow as human beings, encouraging them to be the backbone of their homes and communities, but most of all, encouraging them to fulfil their dreams and actualise the greatness that lies in each and every one of them.
Rabbi Mordechai Sher is the co-founder of Yeshivas Ohr Avraham. He is respected and admired as a committed Rebbe and counselor whose insights and presence have a profound impact on his students and the yeshiva. As a "father figure" to many students far from home, Rabbi Sher is always available to lend an ear, give advice and guide many a student through the shidduch process. His renowned mussar vaadim are a morning seder highlight. Originally from Pretoria, South Africa, Rabbi Sher studied law at Witswatersrand University. He continued his Torah studies at Ohr Sameach, Jerusalem as well as the Johannesburg Kollel. Before co-founding Ohr Avraham, he served as the Mashigiach of Yeshivas Midrash Shmuel in Jerusalem and directed the South African Program at Aish HaTorah. Rabbi Sher and his family currently live in Moshav Tifrach in the Negev.

Rabbi Zelig Weinberg was born in Jerusalem and grew up and studied in the shadow of many Gedolei Yisrael of the previous generation. He spent his early years at Yeshivas Be'er Yaakov, under the guidance of HaRav Moshe Shmuel Shapira zt"l. He was soon invited to be among the first group of nine students in Yeshivas Brisk in Jerusalem where he was the youngest student ever to learn in the yeshiva. Rav Weinberg merited spending two years learning from the Brisker Rav zt"l before his passing, after which he spent many years as a close student of the Brisker Rav’s son Reb Yosef Ber Soleveitchik zt"l.
Among his chavrusas while in Brisk were Reb Avraham Gurwitz Shlita, the current Rosh Yeshiva of Gateshead, and Reb Chaim Shalom Leibowitz Shlita, the current Rosh Yeshiva of Kaminetz. After learning in Brisk for a number of years, he established his own kollel called Chedvas Yosef in Yerushalayim.
The Rav gave the top shiur at Aish HaTorah for some years, after which he travelled to London to help strengthen the kollel of his father-in-law, Rav Shmelke Pinter zt"l, the leader of the English chassidishe community. One year later found him back in Israel as the Rosh Yeshiva of the Slonim Yeshiva in Bnei Brak, headed by Rav Avraham Weinberg Shlita, the current Slonimer Rebbe. He began giving the top shiur in Ohr Avraham two years ago.
At Ohr Avraham, Rav Weinberg’s shiur presents our advanced students with an opportunity to blossom in the methods of learning which the Rav gleaned from his close contact with Gedolei Yisroel. He trains the students in this unique method of thinking, teaching them how to ask the important questions on the Gemara and the Mefarshim and how to go about answering them. Students present weekly chaburas, presentations of original ideas based on the material covered in the shiur.
In addition to his shiur at Ohr Avraham, Rav Weinberg continues to give a chabura to British students of the Mirrer Yeshiva during the evenings in his apartment. He is the author of Chevyon Oz, a two-volume work on the Rambam and Shas. The yeshiva is very fortunate to have Rav Weinberg on its staff.
